Milk Carton Faces: Rapper Cam'Ron Performs @ AXE 'One Night Only'

Damn, when was the last time Cam'Ron performed.....anywhere? I can't remember but the Harlem rapper took to the mic to perform a "One Night Only" show for AXE Music at Capitale in New York City (August 16). T.I., Mary J. Blige, Swizz Beatz and Maino also performed.

Celebs Out And About: Rihanna Does Leather, Mya Goes Blond

Rihanna, who rocked an over the shoulder one-piece leather dress with beige Louboutins, was spotted leaving Ago Restaurant with friends last night in West Hollywood (July19). Hope she didn't break a sweat in all that leather. After the restaurant, she headed to the Record Plant recording studios to squeeze in some late night studio hours.

 Singer Mya, whose been M.I.A. lately, was spotted at the Carrera Sunglasses Party in Miami sporting some blond curls. Cute. Do we want to hear more music from Mya? Yes? No? Indecisive?

 Rapper Foxy Brown showed her face over the weekend as she celebrated her brother Mousey's birthday at a club in NYC. She rocked an interesting pair of shades that look hideous and is still wearing scarfs on her head like it's a fashion statement. Oh foxy!

Long Time, No See: Keyshia Cole

Another person I wasn't expecting to see last night at the 2010 BET Awards was Keyshia Cole. She's been pretty much M.I.A. since giving birth to her son 3 months ago. I was very excited to see her because I LOVE me some Keyshia Cole. Not only did she attend, but she performed "Airplanes" with artist B.O.B. and Eminem. Some people criticized her vocals during the performance but I think she sounded good. Yes, the bang she sported was a little excessive but leave it be. By her side was the love in her life, NBA Cleveland Cavalier's Daniel "Boobie" Gibson. Peep that rock on her hand.

Where Are They Now? 90's Singer Mona Lisa

It's been over a decade since we've heard anything about her -- but I got an email yesterday asking me to do a post on singer Mona Lisa, who's 90's hits include "Just Wanna Please You" and "Can't Be Wasting My Time". I was a huge fan of hers growing up and thought it would be a good idea to see what she's been up to. 

Mona Lisa, whose real name is Kimberly Leadbetter, was born in Union, South Carolina. She later relocating to Yonkers, NY. She began singing in church at the age of 7 and by 10, she was performing for sold out audiences at the Ujamma Dance Theatre of Harlem. After performing and winning talent competitions across the state, at 12 years old she performed at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY where she received a standing ovation. She even got money thrown at her, which hadn't been done in years. By 13, Mona's talent caught the attention of world renowned producer Narada Michael Walden who took her under his wing and by 15, she was signed to Island Black Music. By her 16th birthday, she had her debut album "11-20-79" (her birthday) arranged. 

In 1995, her debut single, "Can't Be Wasting My Time" was released on the Don't Be a Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood soundtrack and her album was released soon after, with the follow up single, "You Said". From that spawned tv appearances and magazine spreads.

Brooklyn's own rapper Foxy Brown sat down with Mo'Nique and had a very candid and emotional interview earlier this week. From the moment she walked on the stage, she was overcome with emotion and whispered in Mo'Nique's ear "God is good." I thought the interview was very necessary because a lot of people have been wondering what has been going on with her because there's no mistaking that Foxy has been through ordeal after ordeal, including becoming deaf for a short period of time. Models Melyssa Ford and Esther Baxter, along with former G-Unit leading lady Olivia partied last night at Greenhouse in NYC. Rapper Joe Budden, radio personality Ed Lover and "Basketball Wives" Jennifer Williams also hit up the spot. They all hit up Greenhouse after leaving a Bottles & Strikes event at Chelsea Piers.

Meanwhile reality star Tiffany "New York" Pollard attended former "Family Matters" star aka Karrine Steffans' man, Darius McCrary's birthday bash at Haute. Natalie Nunn and RHOA Lisa Wu-Hartwell also attended.

Milk Carton Faces: Cam'Ron x Jim Jones Squash "Beef" And Play Ball In The ATL

Cam'Ron and Jim Jones came together for the "Converse Band Of Ballers" tournament in Atlanta, putting any beef rumors to rest. This is the first time the two have been seen together publicly in over 2 years. Rumor has it that Dipset is working out deals for future projects. Anyway, they went on to win the title, which Jim Jones won for a second straight year. Also in the building was Jermaine Dupri and Shawty Lo. After the tournament, the after party was held at mega-producer Dallas Austin's house. 

Toni Braxton, Where Are You Going With That Lace Pantsuit And Bronze Mohawk?

 

Toni Braxton was spotted leaving Mr. Chow's restaurant in LA (April 26) wearing a black laced pantsuit and a bronzed buzzcut/mohawk. I need the style jury on this one. But leave it to the diva to be where she knows the paparazzi will be swarming. Still love you Toni.

Once upon a time, the biggest duo in hip-hop were Ashanti and Ja Rule. Now that their careers are pretty much dunzo, the only time we really see them is when they're out and about. Chili (TLC) Needs Love..."What Chili Wants" Trailer, Looks Interesting

 Rozonda "Chili" Thomas, formally of the group TLC is looking for love (yes another "find Mr. Right" show). She is trying to embark on another chapter in her life and is using TV to help her find the one. I doubt that is going to happen on this kind of show, but we'll see. She enlists the help of longtime friends Missy Elliott and T-Boz. From looking at the trailer, it looks like it might be interesting because we all know Chili is a little fiesty. The show which is set to air April 11 on VH1.

 Looks like the former Princess of "The Roc" Teairra Mari is trying to make a comeback. She filmed her "Sponsor" video in a mansion in LA (Feb. 23) with Soulja Boy as her leading man, whose featured on the track with Gucci Mane. The single is from her much-delayed sophomore album. Vanessa Simmons makes a cameo in the video.

Wanna See What Maia Campbell Looks Like Now?

No one could forget how terrible Maia Campbell looked after a video was posted of her either having a mental episode or high off drugs. She has since been in rehab and appears to be doing much better for herself. Here she is on Melrose Ave. looking much, much better.

 According to photographer Seven, Maia was “looking good and very happy and upbeat.” There was no sign of her being high, and she was carrying a bag of Miss Jessie’s hair care products. She looked to be fully on the road to recovery with the drug abuse as a thing of the past. Normally, she is unwilling to take pictures, but she was more than cooperative and happy to do so this time around. The photog also says “she smelled good."
