Drake: "I Could Play [President] Obama", Talks Negative Blog Comments

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Paper Magazine did a feature on Young Money's Drake last month for it's Summer Music Issue (on stands now), but there were a few more things the magazine published yesterday about the rising star. He talks about the negativity of the internet, returning to acting, and playing OBAMA. Really?
On the blogs:
I definitely haven't said this before, but I stopped going on a computer. I have a problem where if I go read a hundred positive things about me and there's one guy in there who says 'I hate Drake' that's the one I pay attention to. I think that's a common problem. Negativity hurts us more than positivity helps us. I asked about 10 or 20 people around me, 'When's the last time you went on a website and commented on something, like a song dropped and you went on and said, 'That song is hot' or 'That song is terrible?' And everyone I asked around me, whose opinions I respect, the people I love, were like, 'I've never done that before.' And these are all level-headed, intelligent people whose opinion I respect, so I just started saying to myself, 'It takes a certain type of individual to really participate in a group discussion about someone else, especially if they're going super hard with consistent hate.

On returning to acting:
I have an extreme desire to get back into acting and I've been in conversations non-stop about what kind of projects I'm going to pick, who I'd like to work with and things of that nature. I really have to gauge it off of how well this album does and what the demand is for Drake after this album, and I've gotta see how much time I can afford to take off before people hear from me again. If... it's unanimous that they're over [Thank Me Later], then yeah, maybe I'll have a little bit more time to act before I go back in and make another album. But I'm pretty confident in the music that I made. I think music will be commanding my life for the next little bit, and hopefully I can find a month or two months to film a movie.

On playing President Obama:
I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama's life soon because I could play him. That's the goal [laughs]. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don't change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I'm pretty good at impressions. Slowly but surely, I'm not in the study mode because nobody's called me about anything, but I just pay attention so when the day comes I'm not scrambling to learn how to speak like him. I want to be involved in great film projects. I don't want to do the basketball movie that everyone does. I don't want to do the typical black film that everyone expects. I think that I have enough experience to actually be involved in a real meaty project full of substance.

Drake Lived Up To The Hype

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Despite a few naysayers, Drake lived up to the hype of his album Thank Me Later by opening at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard 200. While final numbers won’t be released until Wednesday, HITS Daily Double reports that Drizzy sold around 463,000 copies in his first week, just shy of gold status. He claims the third best debut of the year behind Sade (502,000) and Lady Antebellum (481,000), and also holds the biggest first week for a rapper since his mentor Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3, which moved 476,000 units in September.

Drake took to Twitter to thank his fans for making him No. 1. “Thank you for the support…thank you for the memories…thank me later,” he wrote.

Check out some flicks of Drake at the Bing Entertainment event last night in West Hollywood yesterday (June 22), where he also performed.

(Video) Craziness @ Drake's Free CANCELED Concert

Thousands and thousands of Drake fans filled the South Street Seaport yesterday for a free concert, but it was cancelled due to a riot that ensued from all the madness. People started throwing bottles and chairs, climbing on roofs and pushing people against the stage. More than 15,000 people showed up only to be let down. Drake took to his twitter and said this:

Did Rihanna Play Drake?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

On his Thank Me Later album, Drake's song "Fireworks" has a verse about Rihanna, who asked him to write a song for her new album (which never got released). The two soon began seeing each other regularly and even had a make-out session at Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge in New York last year, though they never publicly confirmed their brief relationship. In the track, he says:

“I could tell it wasn’t love, I just thought you’d fuck with me/ Who could’ve predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me, damn/ I kept my wits about me luckily, what happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me/ Now all of a sudden these gossip rags wanna cover me, and you makin’ it seem like it happened that way because of me/ But I was curious, and I’ll never forget it baby, what an experience/ You could’ve been the one, but it wasn’t that serious.”

He explains what happened between them. “I was a pawn,” he candidly tells The New York Times. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear. I was like, ‘Wow, this feels terrible.’”

In the Times article, it reveals that the song "The Resistance" is about an accidental pregnancy with a woman he was briefly involved with, who chose to end the pregnancy.

Why Did Drake Look 40 When He Was Only 17?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Drake's "When I Was 17" is scheduled to premiere this Saturday at 11am on MTV. This picture is crazy. He definitely had the nerd thing going on back in the day and I'm sure he will get clowned by many people when this episode airs. Many people know Drake as "Jimmy" from Degrassi, but when he was 17, he was also an ebay guru. An ebay guru??? *Kanyeshrug*

New Official Video: Drake "Find Your Love"

Drake premiered his video for his new single "Find Your Love", which was produced by Kanye West. The video which features Maliah Michel and reggae artist Movado, was shot in Jamaica and was directed by Anthony Mandler. The ending leaves you with a big ass question mark over your head, but the video was definitely a big step up from "Best I Ever Had". Check it out!

New Official Video: Drake "Over"

This is what he had to say about the video:
“I’ve shot a lot of videos before, but this is my first attempt to establish myself as Drake the artist. Shooting the other videos I’ve done has been great. I really don’t care what other people think about them, they were great experiences for me. I’ve learned a lot from them. Today, I’m shooting with somebody I really look up to and respect. I’m shooting with Anthony Mandler.”
“The song is so aggressive, and it’s sort of a love story in the video. It has a lot to do with the album [Thank Me Later]. The album is about finding love, feeling ‘Have I sold my soul’ as far as ‘Will I ever be able to gain the trust of a woman? Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women? Will I ever find that pure love?’ Those elements are in the video.
The song “Over” touches on Drake reaction to fame and stardom. I wanted people to understand I could have lost it. ‘Over’ could have been my entire album. Just ’cause that’s what this industry and game will do to you if you lose yourself.”

Nicki Minaj x Drake Cover XXL Magazine + New Official Video: Nicki Minaj (Feat. Sean Garrett) "Massive Attack"

Nicki Minaj got the straight "I'm a boss bxtch" look goin' on, too bad that wig is killin' me. She joins Young Money label mate Drake for the May 2010 cover of XXL Magazine.

Nicki Minaj just debuted her new video for "Massive Attack" on 106 & Park. The video features Sean Garrett and pretty much consists of Nicki showin' her booty, desert and flexible ass men with crazy contacts. I personally think the song and video is BLAHHHHHH. She had the internet goin' nuts with that damn green wig she had on.

The Young Money crew were out in Mississippi (Jan. 10) to perform for Lil Wayne's "Farewell Tour" (which will be his last one before turning himself in next month for the weapons possesion charge). The whole gang was there -- Nicki Minaj, Drake, Baby...and the rest of the crew (who are of irrelevance to me).
